Stoner leads the way as Bridgestone’s wets get first workout since August

Round 18: Valencia GP – Free Practice One & Two
Valencia, Friday 4 November 2011

Bridgestone wet compounds available: Front: Soft. Rear: Soft

The first wet MotoGP sessions since Free Practice three for the Czech Republic Grand Prix on 13 August provided some interesting running today on the opening day of the season finale in Valencia.

This morning’s first free practice was damp after heavy early morning rain, meaning that all riders used Bridgestone’s wet tyres for the entire 45minute session. Casey Stoner finished fastest, ahead of Repsol Honda teammate Dani Pedrosa and Ducati’s Valentino Rossi.

More rain fell at midday and left the track soaked for the second free practice session, and in these conditions it was Suzuki’s Álvaro Bautista who shone, setting the fastest time of the session 0.34seconds ahead of Ducati’s Nicky Hayden with the satellite Pramac Ducati of Randy de Puniet in third.

The sun emerged towards the end of the second session and track conditions started to improve meaning that the laptimes got faster throughout, although the morning’s session was still the faster of the two. Parts of the circuit remained very tricky, such as the standing water on the entry to turn one which caught out Ben Spies and Karel Abraham, who was running at the front for most of the afternoon.

Dry weather is forecast for tomorrow but rain is expected all day on Sunday, potentially meaning the first wet race this season since the British Grand Prix at Silverstone in June.

Tohru Ubukata – General Manager, Bridgestone Motorsport Tyre Development Department
“We had two wet sessions today but the conditions in each were very different. In FP1 it started damp and slowly got drier towards the end, whereas in FP2 it was fully wet. What this means is that today we have been able to assess the performance of our soft compound wets in a very wide range of conditions and from this I can say that I believe durability and consistency are sufficient for race distance in anything from damp to full wet. This is important given that rain is forecast for Sunday.”

Triumph introduces three new motorcycles for 2012
Fresh from recording record sales in 2011, Triumph Motorcycles will celebrate its 110th anniversary in 2012 with its
strongest ever line-up, boosted by three new models which will be officially unveiled at the EICMA show in Milan, on
November 8.
Triumph Tiger Explorer
Brand new for 2012 is the Tiger Explorer, a flagship model for Triumph’s Adventure range.
Following on from 2011’s phenomenally successful Tiger 800 models, which have become Europe’s best selling sub-
800cc adventure tourers, the Tiger Explorer is powered by an all-new, shaft-driven, three-cylinder engine in excess of
1200cc, delivering class leading performance to the adventure touring class.
Featuring a high-specification as standard, the Tiger Explorer debuts Triumph’s new ‘ride-by-wire’ throttle system
and includes cruise control, switchable ABS and traction control as standard. The high specification continues in the
chassis department with a strong steel chassis and cast alloy wheels, 19” front and 17” rear, the latter showcased
thanks to the stylish single-sided swingarm.
A suite of bespoke accessories have also been developed for the Tiger Explorer’s launch with hard and soft luggage,
low and high seat options and a wide range of heated and electrical accessories which can be run simultaneously
thanks to the Tiger Explorer’s best-in-class 950w generator.
Triumph Speed Triple R
Following the success of the uprated versions of the Street Triple and Daytona 675, Triumph is introducing a premium
version of its iconic Speed Triple, the Speed Triple R.
Working in close collaboration with Swedish suspension brand Öhlins, the Speed Triple R sports the latest
specification NIX30 43mm forks at the front, with a jewel like TTX36 unit at the rear. To minimise unsprung weight
as much as possible, the lightweight five-spoke forged aluminium wheels from PVM are over 1.7kg lighter than
those on the standard machine, delivering even more precise and agile handling. Stopping the Speed Triple R are
top specification four-piston radial monoblock calipers from Brembo, the leading brand in MotoGP racing, with a
switchable version of Triumph’s electronic anti-lock system available as an option. Together, the brakes and wheels
offer a 5% increase in braking performance over the standard Speed Triple.
The Speed Triple R’s choice of metallic Phantom Black and Crystal White colour options are complemented with
red coloured subframe and detailing, as well as the iconic gold forks, to create a sportier and more exotic look that
confirm its status as Triumph’s premier naked sports model.
Triumph Steve McQueenTM Edition
Triumph has joined forces with the estate of Hollywood icon Steve McQueen to create a limited edition motorcycle
that pays tribute to the late actor’s love of the British brand’s products.
Based on the classic Bonneville T100, just 1,100 of the Steve McQueenTM Edition will be sold worldwide. Featuring a
host of modified parts, the design is inspired by the Triumph Trophy TR6 that McQueen insisted on riding during the
famous stunt scene in The Great Escape, and features a military-style Matt Khaki Green livery, stencil-style Triumph
decal on the tank and the actor’s signature on the side covers.
Featuring a solo seat and black luggage rack, the McQueen bike has also been fitted with a rugged skid plate
and small black-bodied headlamp. The Triumph Steve McQueenTM Edition features a host of other blacked out
components, including wheel rims and hubs, handlebars, rear springs, mirrors and front mudguard supports. To
confirm the bike’s provenance, each machine is individually numbered with a plaque placed on the

Kallio kellotti kovia aikoja Valencian sateessa

Mika Kallio avasi ratamoottoripyöräilyn MM-kauden viimeisen kisaviikonlopun vauhdikkaissa merkeissä, kun Marc VDS-tallin suomalaiskuski kellotti huippuaikoja perjantain molemmilla harjoitusjaksoilla.

Lopulta Kallio sijoittui epävakaisissa oloissa ajetuilla kahdella jaksolla sijoille 5. ja 10. Perjantaina kuljettajien harmina olivat sadekuurot, joiden välissä radan pito vaihteli.

- Pyörän kilpailukyky on tietenkin tärkeä asia. Tallimme vaihtaa Suter-pyörän saksalaiseen Kalexiin ja meillä kaikilla on kova usko uuden kaluston potentiaaliin.

Ensitestit takana

Valencian kisaviikonlopun jälkeen samalla radalla ajetaan perinteisesti testejä. Sadekeli vesitti testityötä maanantaina, mutta Mika Kallio pääsi jo ottamaan ensimmäiset tyypit Kalex-pyörästä.

- Vasta kuivalla kelillä on mahdollista saada oikeanlainen kuva pyörän ominaisuuksista.

Bridgestone’s 2012 tyres debuted successfully in Valencia

Viesti Kirjoittaja Bomber Magazine » To Marras 10, 2011 12:51 pm

Official MotoGP Test
Valencia, Tuesday 8 – Wednesday 9 November 2011

Bridgestone slick compounds available: Front: Soft, Medium. Rear (asymmetric): Medium, Hard

During the two-day official MotoGP test at the Valencia circuit, Bridgestone debuted the final specification 2012 tyres, providing them to all teams for the duration of the test.

The test was conducted mostly with the new-era 1000cc machines including five Claiming Rule Team (CRT) bikes from BQR Inmotec, BQR FTR, TeamLaglisse and the Grellini Team. Every rider’s tyre allocation comprised only the 2012 tyres, marking the first full usage of the 2012 tyres that Bridgestone have been developing for one year.

The new family of tyres has been developed with the objectives of achieving easier riding characteristics by improving warm-up performance and with a wider temperature operating range, and rider feedback is positive.

This is an important test not only from a tyre perspective but because it is the first time that next year’s rider changes take effect and the 1000cc bikes have been on track at the same time.

Tohru Ubukata – General Manager, Bridgestone Motorsport Tyre Development Department
“This test was the first opportunity for us to give all the riders our finalised 2012 specification tyres so it was very important for us. Every rider used our 2012 spec tyres for both days of testing on the new era of 1000cc machines, including five of the new CRT bikes.

“The tyres we supplied are those that will be used for next season, but this test was the first official one for the 1000c bikes so this is the first stage in learning these new machines so we are not resting on our laurels. We will keep learning their characteristics with each test and continue our tyre development into and through next season.

“We started developing this new family of tyres from the post-Valencia test at this time last year and used every test opportunity during this season to continue with our development programme, and I am confident what we have will be a marked step forward in addressing the specific concerns from this year.

“Specifically, our objectives from these new tyres are to make their grip characteristics easier to manage, to improve warm-up performance and to increase their temperature operating range. From the data we have collected from the last two days, I am satisfied that we have met these objectives and rider feedback has been positive so I am confident for tyre performance next year. I’m also happy with the positive feedback even from CRT teams about our new tyre and its warm-up performance.

“I’d like to thank all the teams and riders for their support these last two days and for the significant role they have all played in developing these tyres this year, for the time they dedicated on track and for their feedback and comments.”

Dunlop wins FIM Endurance World Championship at Doha finale

Viesti Kirjoittaja Bomber Magazine » Ma Marras 14, 2011 2:16 pm

Dunlop development squad Suzuki Endurance Racing Team (SERT) has won the 2011 FIM Endurance World Championship (EWC) after scoring a podium finish in the season-concluding 8 Hours of Doha at the Losail International Circuit, Qatar on Saturday.
Despite contesting the event with just two riders – Vincent Philippe and Anthony Delhalle – after third rider Daisaku Sakai suffered an injury immediately before the event, the Dunlop-shod Suzuki squad crossed the finish line after eight gruelling hours of action immediately behind their title rivals, meaning they won the title by 109 points to 105.
Dunlop’s tyres provided the performance required to win this season’s title contested across 72 hours of racing in a wide range of weather conditions and track temperatures.
After winning an historic eleventh consecutive Bol d’Or win in the 24 Hours event at Magny Cours at the season opener in April, Dunlop and SERT contested the 8 Hours of Albacete, Suzuka Eight Hours and Le Mans 24 Hours Moto before the season culminated in Qatar. Podiums were achieved in all events except Suzuka.
The EWC win comes after Dunlop squad Team Motors Events Bodyguard AMT Assurances won the FIM Endurance World Cup for Superstock bikes after taking an unassailable lead at the Le Mans 24 Hours Moto at the end of September.
Dunlop uses endurance racing to give the best real world test for tyres as the wide range of track and temperature conditions experienced over the course of a race puts the tyres through a thorough workout. Dunlop technology such as NTEC and Multi-Tread are used and developed here.
Dunlop tyres were also on the Doha fifth-finishing Honda TT Legends Team who finished seventh in the season standings at the end of their debut development year.
Three tyre manufacturers were represented in the final round of the EWC, with Dunlop the most prevalent by being used on almost half of the 25 team entries. Illustrating the close nature of competition, three motorcycle marques and two tyre brands were presented on the podium.
Quotes
Sharon Antonaros, Director Motorcycle PBU EMEA Motorcycle Business Unit:
“Congratulations to our long-standing partner, the Suzuki Endurance Racing Team for yet another display of what it takes to win an endurance world championship, and in particular for showcasing Dunlop’s tyres. Earlier this year we saw the eleventh consecutive Bol d’Or victory with Dunlop tyres. Now to win the championship with our development team is another endorsement of our tyre technology and the efforts we put behind pushing the technology forwards. All these efforts are not just to win titles; they are to benefit our consumers with the very best products possible such as our recently launched RoadSmart II. Thank you for all the dedicated hard work of our staff at events and all our engineers away from the circuit to bring another title to the Dunlop brand.”
Stephen Male Dunlop Motorcycle Motorsports Manager:
“Motorcycle endurance racing is one of the hardest challenges that we face as a tyre manufacturer. We have to find technology that allows performance at the level required across a huge variety of conditions. In a typical 24 hour race, you can start the race with 30ºC track temperature, and by 05:00 the following morning it can be down to single figures. Then there is the prospect of rain. Making a tyre which works well in the dry is straightforward; making a tyre which works well in the wet is straightforward; finding technologies which cope with the transition between the two conditions is the huge challenge. What’s really exciting is that this challenge is exactly the same which faces road riders every day of the week. If we can find solutions to those problems, then we can integrate those solutions into our road tyre product and improve tyres for all motorcyclists.”
Peter Chapman, Dunlop Motorsport Service Engineer:
“It was a long, hard, hot race to end the season and once again the Suzuki Endurance Racing Team were able to pull out a strategic masterpiece to win the championship, even with one less rider than the opposition in the final race. The track temperature ranged from a high of over 40ºC to the low 20s by the end of the race, so our tyres had to cope with a variety of conditions. We delivered consistent performance, which has been the secret to success this season. Now the focus moves to 2012

The “Tricolore” model proudly wears the red, white and green of the Italian flag, underlining the title “Made in Italy” and coinciding with the celebrations of the country’s 150th anniversary of unification. All three models will be available from early 2012.

NEW GRANDSTANDS AND ‘FAN-ZONES’ AROUND THE COURSE TO BE INTRODUCED FOR 2012 ISLE OF MAN TT RACES

Five spectacular spectator areas have been designated as ‘Fan Zones’ for the 2012 Isle of Man TT Races, fuelled by Monster Energy, and each will have a temporary grandstand. The grandstands will have capacity of between 200 and 300 seats each, supplementing the main TT Grandstand on the start/finish line on Glencrutchery Road.
The five areas have been selected for their stunning views of the on track action and represent some of the fastest points on the course. As well as a temporary grandstand, each with around 200 seats, they will also feature catering and toilet facilities, free WiFi, free parking and enhanced PA systems relaying the Manx Radio TT live race commentary.
The five – Crosby Jump, Rhencullen, Ballacrye, Ginger Hall and CregNy Baa – are all iconic spots with clear views of the action. Crosby Jump sees riders routinely clocking 180mph as they tackle the crest in the road; Rhencullen, situated north of Kirk Michael, is one of the most spectacular sections of the course, while Ballacrye – a double apex taken in sixth gear -is widely recognised as one of the most demanding points on the course.
The final two ‘fan zones’, both next to famous pubs, are two of the most recognisable landmarks on the course – Ginger Hall at the edge of Sulby Village and The CregNy Baa at the end of the Mountain section of the course. The Grandstand at Ginger Hall offers a clear view of the riders tackling the late apex lefthander on the way into Ramsey while spectators at The Creg will see the riders as they approach from Kate’s Cottage and the sweeping run downhill into Brandish.
Geoff Corkish, MBE, MHK, Political Member, Isle of Man Tourism commented:
“Fans will always have their favourite spots but as the TT Races audience grows we want to make sure that spectators have a wide choice of options for watching the races. Demand for tickets for the Glencrutchery Road Grandstand increases every year and it is likely to have sold out by Christmas so we were keen to offer fans an alternative. We have conducted research that indicates fans are looking for these kind of facilities, and I am delighted we are able to bring them on line in time for TT 2012.”
Tickets for the fanzones, including guaranteed grandstand seat, are available for each of the four race days – Saturday 2nd, Monday 4th, Wednesday 6th and Friday 8th June – and are priced at £25 or £20 for midweek races. They will also be open for final practice with a £5 charge. They are available from Official TT Travel Agency Regency Travel on +44 1624 694455 or via the official website www.iomtt.com

Jamie Hamilton to make Isle of Man TT Races debut with KMR Kawasaki

The 2012 Isle of Man TT races fuelled by Monster Energy has been given a major boost with the news that former National Superstock 600cc Champion Jamie Hamilton will make his Mountain Course debut next year.
The Ballymena ace originally had aspirations to be a footballer, having been on the books of Leicester City and Bolton Wanderers, before switching to motocross and then road racing. His career high point to date was winning the highly competitive 2009 Metzeler National Superstock 600cc Championship ahead of the likes of Luke Mossey, Luke Jones and current TT star Dan Kneen.
Still only 20 years of age, Hamilton continued with the Gearlink Kawasaki team in 2010 where he competed half a season in the British Supersport Championship before moving to 1000cc machines and the Irish Superbike Championship in 2011. With his road racing debut at the North West 200 curtailed due to the weather, Hamilton then joined forces with Ryan Farquhar’s KMR Kawasaki team where he was a revelation in the final third of the season.
Hamilton finally made his road racing debut at the Ulster Grand Prix Bikeweek achieving two fourth places in the Supertwins races, following this up with second at Killalane in the Junior Support race. His outings on the roads ended with another debut, this time at Scarborough, where he again impressed greatly with 3rd and 4th in the two Phil Mellor Trophy Supertwin races. He then wrapped up his season with 1st and 2nd in the two Supertwins races at the Sunflower Trophy meeting, getting the better of former GP winner Jeremy McWilliams and team boss Farquhar in the opening encounter.
On the back of such impressive results, Hamilton will contest a full season of road racing for KMR Kawasaki in 2012 and will contest the TT in all three 1000cc events, the Superbike, Superstock and Senior races. He will also participate in the inaugural Supertwins TT on an ER6 Kawasaki.
Speaking about his TT debut, Hamilton said:
“I’m really enjoying road racing and can’t wait to make my TT career. I couldn’t have a better mentor than Ryan and I’m going to be working really hard during the close season to make sure that I’m in the best shape to tackle the course. I’ve already been over to the Isle of Man a few times to look at the course and I’m going to spend large chunks of the winter with Milky Quayle and Johnny Barton learning the course.”
Team owner Farquhar added;
“I really like Jamie’s attitude to racing and right from the moment he first rode for me at the Ulster GP, he’s been a pleasure to work with. He wants to go road racing and he’s not scared of getting stuck in and getting his hands dirty. He’s more than prepared to put the hard yards in and gives nothing other than 100%. I like that attribute in someone and, with a mature head on his shoulders, I’m sure he’ll put in a really solid debut at the TT. There’ll be no pressure on him so he can just go out, learn the course and enjoy himself.”

Mika Kallio tyytyväisenä testien jälkeen talvitauolle

Etelä-Espanjassa Jerezin radalla ajettiin perjantaina päätökseen Moto2-tallien vuoden viimeinen testijakso viime viikolla Valenciassa ajettujen testien jatkoksi.
